What is indoor air quality (IAQ)? Indoor air quality refers to the condition of the air inside a building, including levels of CO₂, particulate matter, humidity, temperature, and pollutants. In schools, IAQ directly affects student focus, health, and academic performance.
What CO₂ level is considered safe in a classroom? Outdoor CO₂ levels are around 420 ppm. Most guidelines recommend keeping classroom CO₂ below 1,000 ppm to maintain alertness and cognitive performance. Levels above are commonly associated with drowsiness, headaches, and reduced concentration.
How does air quality affect student performance? Research links poor IAQ (especially elevated CO₂ and particulate matter) to lower concentration, more absences, and reduced test scores. Improving ventilation and monitoring air quality is one of the most cost-effective interventions for improving learning outcomes.
What does Airthings measure in schools?
