How to generate a radon report using Airthings Dashboard

Indoor air quality can be compromised by various air contaminants, one of which is radon. This gas is present in every home and it is the number one cause of lung cancer among non-smokers, according to EPA estimates¹. At Airthings, we created the very first battery powered radon detector because we understand the importance of radon testing. This is why all Airthings Wave and Wave Plus users can generate their very own radon report directly from their Airthings Dashboard.

What is radon?

Radon is a natural gas that originates from the Earth’s crust and can be found in every home. It is odorless and invisible, and can build up to dangerous levels in our home.  Results show that radon in homes is responsible for about 20,000 lung cancer deaths in the European Union each year², and 21,000 lung cancer deaths every year in the USA³.

As we spend approximately 90% of our time indoors⁴, monitoring indoor air quality has never been more important.

Wave Plus Want to start measuring the air quality in your home? Check out Airthings Wave Plus.

How Airthings Dashboard makes radon monitoring easy

Access to Airthings Dashboard is available for the Wave family of products, but the radon report is specifically for those who own a Wave and Wave Plus.

  • Airthings Dashboard provides interpretations of your air quality data with alerts and advanced analytics.
  • In addition, it allows you to easily view, compare and export data and receive tips to reduce indoor air hazards, optimize ventilation and save on energy costs.

Since radon enters your home through the ground, you are more likely to find it in greater concentrations at lower floors in the house, for example in the basement. However, being a gas, radon spreads in the air so, unsurprisingly, we can potentially find it in every room. Using the Dashboard, it is possible to generate a detailed radon report for every space of your home where you have allocated a detector. In this way, it’s easier for you to implement measures to protect your health and your family.

How to generate a radon report on Airthings Dashboard (step-by-step guide)

Wave and Wave Plus users can create a detailed, but at the same time simple to read, radon report. Read the step-by-step guide below.

1. Login to the Airthings Dashboard. Here you will see all your connected indoor air quality detectors.

2. Select the detector you intend to get a radon report for.

3. Select the download button on the top right of the screen (circled in red).

4. Select the option “Radon report”.

5. Fill out all the text boxes and click on “Generate report”. Keep in mind that you need to measure for at least 5 days in order to get a radon report. We recommend measuring for at least one month for best results.

6. That’s it! You will now obtain a radon report. You can find your own radon report in your downloaded files.

This report is a great way to do keep a record of the changes to your radon levels. Please note that that this report is not certified, which may be a requirement in some states.

What do my levels mean?

More than 4 pCi/L (150 Bq/m^3) : Poor. Keep measuring. If levels are maintained for more than 1 month, contact a professional radon mitigator.

Between 2.7-4 pCi/L (100-150 Bq/m^3) : Fair. Keep measuring. If levels are maintained for more than 3 months, contact a professional radon mitigator.

Less than 2.7 pCi/L (100 Bq/m^3) : Good. No action needed.

The good news is that there are simple solutions for reducing radon levels such as increasing ventilation and sealing cracks. To learn more, check out this article.
