Potentially HSA/FSA Eligible

Save up to 20–30% on cleaner air, courtesy of pre-tax dollars

Airthings radon detectors, indoor air quality monitors, and the Renew air purifier are potentially eligible for HSA and FSA reimbursement in the US with a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) from Truemed. Here's how it works, why we qualify, and exactly which products are covered.

Use it before you lose it

FSA funds don't roll over

Most FSA balances expire at year-end. Turn unused funds into long-term protection for your home and the people in it.

Why we qualify

Indoor air is a medical issue

HSA and FSA funds can be spent on devices that help monitor or manage a medical condition. Airthings devices track three of the most well-documented household health risks in the US.

Radon

The #1 cause of lung cancer among non-smokers, per the EPA. About 1 in 15 US homes is above the 4 pCi/L action level.

PM2.5 & smoke

Fine particulate matter triggers asthma, worsens cardiovascular disease, and infiltrates homes during wildfire season.

Allergens & VOCs

Humidity above 60% breeds mold. VOCs from cleaning products and new furniture aggravate allergies and asthma.

How it works

Reimbursement in four simple steps

You pay up front like any normal order, then get reimbursed by your HSA or FSA provider.

  1. Shop & check out

Buy any eligible Airthings device the normal way — credit card or standard checkout. No special path required.

  2. Open the Truemed link

On your order confirmation page, follow the Truemed link to start a short health survey. About two minutes.

  3. Get your LMN

If approved, Truemed issues a Letter of Medical Necessity for your purchase. It's emailed to you directly.

  4. Submit for reimbursement

Send your Airthings receipt and LMN to your HSA or FSA provider. They reimburse you from your pre-tax balance.

Reimbursement is subject to Truemed's evaluation and your plan's terms. Airthings does not guarantee approval.

Common questions

HSA/FSA at Airthings

How does HSA/FSA reimbursement actually work?
You buy your Airthings device the normal way at checkout — credit card or standard payment. On the order confirmation page, you'll see a link to Truemed, our reimbursement partner. You complete a short health survey, and if approved, Truemed issues a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN). You then submit your Airthings receipt and the LMN to your HSA or FSA provider, who reimburses you from your pre-tax balance.
Why do I need a Letter of Medical Necessity?
Indoor air quality monitors and purifiers sit in a category that requires medical justification for HSA/FSA use. The LMN documents that the device helps monitor or manage a medical condition — like asthma, allergies, or radon exposure — which is what makes the expense eligible under IRS rules.
Is approval guaranteed?
No. Truemed reviews each survey individually, and reimbursement is also subject to your plan's specific terms. Airthings does not guarantee approval. If you're not approved, you've still bought the device through a normal transaction.
Are Renew Filters eligible every time I replace them?
Yes. Each filter replacement is a separate potentially eligible purchase, typically 2 to 3 times per year. You'll need a new Truemed survey per order, but the LMN process is faster on repeat purchases.
How much will I actually save?
HSA and FSA contributions are pre-tax, so reimbursement effectively gives you back the federal, state, and FICA taxes you would have paid on that amount — typically 20–30% combined, depending on your tax bracket and state.
Does this work outside the US?
HSA and FSA are US-specific tax-advantaged accounts. Reimbursement on this page applies to US customers only.
