What does the View Plus measure?

The Airthings View Plus is the most comprehensive consumer air quality monitor Airthings makes. It tracks seven indoor air quality factors at once: radon, PM2.5, CO₂, VOCs, humidity, temperature, and air pressure.

Airthings View Plus animated display cycling through radon, CO₂, and other indoor air quality readings
Radon
0–500 pCi/L. The View Plus alerts at the EPA action level of 4 pCi/L — radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the US, per the EPA.
PM2.5
Fine particles from wildfire smoke, gas stoves, and candles. Laser-scattering counter, 25 μg/m³ alert threshold.
CO₂
Bedrooms hit 1500+ ppm overnight. Harvard and LBNL research shows CO₂ above 1000 ppm impairs sleep and focus.
VOCs
Airborne chemicals from cleaning products, paint, and new furniture. Alert threshold: 250 ppb.
Temperature & Humidity
Humidity above 60% grows mold; below 30% dries skin. Both affect sleep and focus.
Air pressure
Falling outdoor pressure draws more radon up from the soil. Tracking pressure explains radon spikes.

Why most people buy

Radon: the risk you can't see, smell, or feel

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that comes from the ground and enters homes through cracks, floors, and foundations. According to the EPA, it is the second leading cause of lung cancer after smoking — and the #1 cause among non-smokers.

Living with high radon can be as harmful as smoking 10 cigarettes a day. The EPA action level is 4 pCi/L, and about 1 in 15 US homes measures above it. Every home should be tested, regardless of location.

  • Continuous radon monitoring with short- and long-term averages in the app
  • Alerts the moment levels cross the EPA 4 pCi/L action threshold
  • Range 0–500 pCi/L, ~10% accuracy after 7 days, ~5% after 2 months

What the View Plus solves

Three everyday problems, one monitor

Allergy & asthma triggers

Track pollen, humidity, PM2.5, and VOCs — the four indoor factors behind most flare-ups. Keep humidity 30–60% to prevent mold and dust mites.

Sleep & focus

Monitor CO₂, temperature, and VOCs — the quiet factors that decide how rested and sharp you feel. Harvard and LBNL: CO₂ above 1000 ppm impairs performance.

Wildfire smoke & pollutants

PM2.5 alerts during wildfire season. CO₂ and VOCs track indoor buildup when windows stay closed, so you know when to ventilate.

The device + the app

Calm hardware, clear next steps

A customizable e-ink display shows up to four live values. A motion-activated glow indicator reads green, yellow, or red at a glance. The free Airthings app for iOS and Android turns every reading into a next step.

Where to place it

Three good rooms

At breathing height, at least 3 feet from vents, fans, windows, or doors. Never outdoors or above 85% humidity.

Living room or kitchen
Where CO₂, cooking VOCs, and gas-stove PM2.5 matter most.
Main bedroom
Closed bedrooms hit 1500 ppm CO₂ overnight — above the Harvard/LBNL cognition threshold.
Lowest lived-in level
Radon concentrates on lower floors. A finished basement gives the clearest reading.

FAQ

View Plus questions, answered

Does the View Plus detect radon?

Yes. The Airthings View Plus measures radon from 0 to 500 pCi/L using a passive diffusion chamber and alpha spectrometry. Accuracy is about 10% after 7 days and 5% after 2 months at 5.4 pCi/L. The Airthings app alerts at or above the EPA action level of 4 pCi/L.

Where should I place the View Plus?

Place it in the room where your family spends the most time — living room, kitchen, or main bedroom — at breathing height and at least 3 feet from vents, fans, windows, or doors. Never outdoors or above 85% humidity, which permanently damages the radon sensor.

Is the View Plus HSA/FSA eligible?

Yes. The Airthings View Plus is HSA and FSA eligible through Truemed, which lets qualified customers use pre-tax HSA or FSA dollars for eligible health products. Once you've purchased your View Plus, you fill out a short Truemed intake form, and a licensed practitioner reviews your responses to determine eligibility. Eligibility is individual and plan-dependent.

How long does the View Plus battery last?

Up to 2 years on six AA batteries, depending on your Wi-Fi router type and sensor reporting interval. You can also run it on USB-C for always-on operation, which unlocks the hub function for connecting Airthings Wave devices.

What warranty comes with the View Plus?

A standard warranty, plus a free 5-year extended warranty when you register the device on airthings.com within 30 days of purchase. Registration is free and does not affect your statutory rights.

Does the View Plus work with Alexa, Google Home, and HomeKit?

The Airthings View Plus integrates with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, IFTTT, and Homey. Apple HomeKit is not currently supported. Live readings remain available in the Airthings app regardless.

What is the hub feature?

The View Plus extends its internet connectivity to Airthings Wave monitors, which otherwise only use Bluetooth. Linking Wave devices to the View Plus hub brings their readings online, enables alerts, and extends Wave battery life.

Do I need the Airthings app?

Yes. The free Airthings app (iOS or Android) handles setup, alerts, and trend data. The on-device e-ink display also shows live readings without opening your phone. An account requires only an email address and a name.

How accurate are the sensor readings?

Every air sensor has a published range of accuracy, so two devices side by side can report slightly different values without either being defective. Airthings uses a proprietary radon sensor trusted since 2011, a laser-based particulate sensor, and an NDIR CO₂ sensor. See the View Plus product sheet on airthings.com for each sensor's accuracy range.

Monitor the air around you

Radon

You can't see or smell it, but long-term exposure to this radioactive gas is the top cause of lung cancer in non-smokers.

Particulate matter (PM 2.5)

Fine particulate matter (PM2.5) reaches deep in the lungs causing short-term discomfort and long-term health risks.

Carbon Dioxide (CO2)

When it reaches high levels indoors, carbon dioxide (CO2) can cause poor sleep and trouble concentrating.

Temperature

Temperature is not just a matter of comfort, it can negatively affect sleep quality, mood, and alertness.

Airborne chemicals (VOCs)

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are airborne chemicals emitted by everyday items - many are harmless but some are toxic.

Air pressure

Changes in air pressure affect radon levels and, for some, they can trigger headaches, joint stiffness and pain.

Humidity

High humidity promotes mold growth and aggravates asthma symptoms, while too-dry air can lead to skin and throat irritation.
