Technology pioneers and strong partners, Airthings and Energy Control are intensifying their collaboration to strengthen the development of new sensor solutions for commercial buildings.
Energy Control is one of our largest and most important partners. It is therefore natural that we work closely together to develop the best solutions for our shared commercial customers, says Airthings CEO, Ivar Kroghrud.
A key role in energy efficiency
Airthings is a world-leading developer and manufacturer of indoor air quality sensors. The company is headquartered in Oslo, with employees working from various locations across Europe, North America, and Asia. The company’s sensors are a key and central input factor for Energy Control, a company operating at the intersection of technology and building automation. The company has developed an entirely new approach to controlling ventilation and heating/cooling. By combining insights and data from Airthings’ sensors with its own proprietary building management platform, offices and other commercial buildings become demand-driven and self-regulating—often overnight.
We often achieve energy savings of between 20 and 50 percent, while maintaining a good indoor climate in the building. In a world where energy is increasingly a scarce resource, this is important not only for individual property owners and tenants, but also in a broader energy policy context, says founder and CEO of Energy Control, Tommy Hagenes.
Realizing the potential of the sensors
The two companies have worked closely together for many years and know each other very well.
We are an independent player that selects partners who at any given time deliver the solutions that provide the best results for us and our customers. When it comes to our need for insight and accurate indoor climate data, Airthings’ sensors are in a class of their own, says Hagenes.
The companies are now entering into a strategic partnership that involves both development and market collaboration. The goal is simply to make each other better.
We develop the tool, but it is Energy Control that realizes the true potential of the sensors. This means that if our sensors detect high CO₂ levels in a building, it is Energy Control’s solution that makes it possible to actually do something about it. They are therefore crucial in ensuring that our sensors can help make a difference, says Kroghrud.
Exploring additional solutions
The companies have previously worked closely to develop some of the sensors that are now found in thousands of commercial buildings both in Norway and around the world.
Airthings continuously works to further develop existing solutions, but also to create entirely new products. Our role in the development collaboration is to provide input, requests, and feedback on what we think works and what we would like to see, says Hagenes.
Kroghrud believes the two companies are a perfect match and that it is a “no-brainer” for them to work closely together.
It’s a win-win situation where we are simply stronger together. That’s why it is only natural that we collaborate more closely in both development and marketing efforts. We are convinced that this is a collaboration that will significantly strengthen both parties,” says Kroghrud.
