For over two years, Airthings has collaborated with EcoSmart Building, a French company dedicated to energy transition and indoor air quality. This partnership naturally emerged from the need to address the growing challenges of balancing energy efficiency and public health, with regulatory compliance in public buildings.
Originally specialists in installing air purifiers in public buildings (ERP), EcoSmart Building has expanded its expertise. Integrating Airthings’ indoor air quality (IAQ) monitoring solutions, EcoSmart now offers clients deeper insight into their indoor environments while laying the groundwork for intelligent control of technical systems.
Today, EcoSmart Building delivers a complete solution capable of managing HVAC systems; heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, using real-time data from Airthings devices. The goal: to optimize comfort, reduce energy consumption, and enable remote management across large, diverse, and often under-equipped building portfolio.
With nearly 50 public sector clients in Southwest France, EcoSmart Building now deploys its solutions in a wide variety of buildings:
In Biganos, Gironde, the municipality has installed Airthings’ IAQ monitors in all early childhood and primary school facilities, from nurseries to elementary schools, to monitor and take action to improve indoor air quality for children and staff.
The Gard Department, Occitanie, launched an IAQ monitoring program in several buildings facing ventilation and comfort challenges.
The Gironde Department, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, also engaged EcoSmart Building to audit and monitor the IAQ in its administrative and public service buildings.
These projects reflect a growing demand from France’s local authorities for accessible, efficient, and scalable IAQ solutions suitable for all types of public buildings, including schools, nurseries, offices, libraries, technical centers, and more.
Local governments today are increasingly concerned about meeting regulatory obligations, especially in public buildings. French Decree No. 2011-1728, known as the "Grenelle II Decree," requires public building managers, especially those used by children, such as nurseries and schools, to monitor their IAQ regularly.
In place since 2018, the regulation aims to reduce occupants' exposure to harmful pollutants (like CO₂, formaldehyde, or VOCs) and promote better ventilation. In short, it safeguards the health of building users while encouraging building improvements.
Yet, many public entities lack the technical or financial resources to implement such measures across their property portfolios. The joint Airthings + EcoSmart Building solution meets these challenges pragmatically and effectively by enabling:
With this approach, local governments can implement regulatory obligations to improve comfort, energy performance, and the overall well-being of building occupants.
Our partnership with Airthings means we can offer a complete solution that is easy to deploy and manage, with the added benefit of providing accurate data that we can use to make informed decisions.
The partnership strengthens our positioning as a leading local player for public authorities across Southwest France who want to improve their buildings' efficiency and indoor air quality.
