Frequently asked questions
View Plus questions, answered
- Does the Airthings View Plus detect radon?
- Yes. The Airthings View Plus uses a passive diffusion chamber and alpha spectrometry to detect radon from 0 to 500 pCi/L, with accuracy of approximately 10% after 7 days and 5% after 2 months at 5.4 pCi/L. The Airthings app flags any reading at or above the EPA action level of 4 pCi/L.
- Where should I place the View Plus for best results?
- You can use the View Plus in any room indoors where you want to track air quality. Because it is Airthings' most comprehensive monitor, Airthings recommends placing it in rooms where the family gathers and spends time together — like the kitchen or the family room. That said, you can use it in other rooms to get a broad view of air quality. Never place the monitor outdoors or in conditions with over 85% humidity, as this can cause permanent damage to the radon sensor inside. For best results, avoid placing the View Plus within 3 feet (90 cm) of vents, fans, windows, or doors, since these sources of ventilation can skew readings. Place the device near where people spend time, at average breathing height, and never higher than 6 feet (182 cm). You can stand it on a surface or mount it on a wall using the screw holes in the backplate.
- How do I know the measurements are accurate?
- The nature of air and the measurement of its components means there is always room for small variations. Every air sensor manufacturer has to report the device's expected range of accuracy, which is one reason two devices — of the same or different brands — can be placed side by side and report somewhat different values. This does not mean either is defective; both may be reporting values within their range of accuracy. Airthings uses only reliable, proven technology in the View Plus: a proprietary radon sensor trusted by homeowners and professionals since 2011, a laser-based particulate sensor, and an NDIR carbon dioxide sensor. Check the View Plus product sheet on airthings.com for the accuracy range of each sensor. If you suspect your device is reporting inaccurate values, contact the Airthings support team.
- Can I check my live View Plus air quality readings in the app from anywhere?
- Yes. The View Plus connects to your home Wi-Fi network. With internet connectivity, you can access live readings from anywhere in the Airthings app, and you also receive timely notifications when air quality declines. You can use smart home systems like IFTTT and Homey to create home automation flows that use View Plus sensor readings as triggers.
- What is the hub feature in View Plus, and why is it useful?
- The hub feature allows the View Plus to extend its internet connectivity to Airthings Wave monitors, which on their own use only Bluetooth. Homeowners monitoring the air in multiple rooms with a mix of View and Wave monitors can use the Airthings app to link their Wave devices to the View Plus hub. Beyond bringing internet access to the Wave readings, this enables timely air quality notifications and extends the Wave monitor's battery life.
- Do I need the Airthings app to use the View Plus?
- Yes. The View Plus requires the free Airthings app (iOS or Android) to function, including initial setup, alerts, and trend data. The on-device e-ink display also shows live readings without opening your phone. An Airthings account requires only an email address and a name.
- How long does the View Plus battery last?
- The Airthings View Plus runs for up to 2 years on six AA batteries, depending on Wi-Fi router type and sensor reporting interval. You can also run it on USB-C power for always-on operation, which also unlocks the hub function for connecting Airthings Wave devices.
- Does the View Plus work with Alexa, Google Home, and HomeKit?
- The Airthings View Plus integrates with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, IFTTT, and Homey to trigger smart home routines based on sensor readings. Apple HomeKit is not currently supported. Live readings remain available through the Airthings app regardless of which voice assistant you use.
- What warranty comes with the View Plus?
- The View Plus ships with a standard warranty plus a free 5-year extended warranty available when you register the device on airthings.com within 30 days of purchase. Registration is free and does not affect your statutory rights.
