Leading radon and indoor air quality monitoring company Airthings today announces a partnership with Norway’s largest homeowner portal, Boligmappa.

With indoor air often up to five times more polluted than outdoor air, the partnership aims to educate Norwegian homeowners on the importance of monitoring indoor air quality and testing for radon, helping create healthier homes and protect properties over time.

According to the DSA (Norwegian Radiation and Nuclear Safety Agency), Norway’s geology means that it has some of the highest radon levels in the world. While radon occurs naturally and disperses outdoors, modern airtight buildings can trap it indoors, allowing levels to build up. Long-term exposure to high radon levels (above 150 Bq/m3) is the leading cause of lung cancer after smoking.

Boligmappa, often referred to as Norway’s property “service book”, contains a digital history for around three million properties. It includes records of work carried out, details from tradespeople, information from the property register, and ownership history. Through the partnership, Airthings will offer insights and tips for homeowners on how to improve their indoor air quality, alongside an exclusive offer for Boligmappa users.

Airthings’ smart indoor air quality monitors track a range of pollutants, including radon, fine particulate matter (PM), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and CO₂. Data is delivered via a connected app, giving users a clear overview of their air quality and practical guidance for improvements.

Commenting on the partnership, Airthings CEO Ivar Kroghrud says:

“Indoor air quality is something many people don’t think about, yet it has a direct impact on our health and homes,” says Airthings CEO Ivar Krogherud.

“Boligmappa is a trusted platform for property information in Norway, making it a natural partner for us. Together, we have a unique opportunity to reach homeowners at key moments, such as when buying or selling a property; when understanding air quality and radon levels is especially important. We’re excited to get started with the partnership and to connect with more homeowners across Norway.”

Tor Helge Mattland, Head of Sales at Boligmappa, adds:

At Boligmappa, we work to give homeowners better oversight and peace of mind when it comes to their homes. Indoor air quality is an important, but often overlooked, part of the overall home environment. Through our partnership with Airthings, we can make it easier to make informed, knowledge-based decisions, both for health and property value.”

The partnership aims to make it easier for homeowners to understand and take control of their indoor air quality. Combining Boligmappa’s reach and known and trusted brand with Airthings’ technology and expertise, the collaboration aims to help more Norwegians create healthier indoor environments and make more informed decisions about their homes.

What is radon?

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that seeps out of the soil due to the breakdown of the element uranium. Radon gas breaks down into tiny radioactive particles which can be inhaled deep into the lungs. These emit alpha radiation that can damage cell DNA and trigger cancer-causing mutations over time. The DSA reports that radon-induced lung cancer kills around 300 people in Norway each year. Despite this, many homeowners have never tested their home for radon. Testing for radon is simple, particularly when using a continuous monitor to understand long-term exposure. Radon mitigation is typically straightforward and long-lasting. Continued monitoring is recommended, even after mitigation, as levels can change over time.
