Airthings radon monitors for Canada

Three C-NRPP recommended
radon monitors

The Canadian National Radon Proficiency Program (C-NRPP) runs performance tests on consumer-grade electronic radon monitors. Airthings View Plus, Wave Plus and Corentium Home are on its list of recommended devices.

  • Digital radon readings in Bq/m³ — no lab, no mailing kits back
  • Made to stay in place for the 3-month test C-NRPP recommends

How to test

Get a reliable radon result

Radon levels rise and fall from day to day. A short test can read much higher or lower than your real average. Follow C-NRPP's advice to get a number you can act on.

  1. 1. Test for at least 3 months
Leave the monitor in place for a minimum of 3 months to see your average radon level.
  2. 2. Test in the heating season
Indoor radon is usually highest in fall and winter, when windows stay shut and the heat is on.
  3. 3. Pick a room you use every day
Place the monitor in a room that's occupied for at least 4 hours a day.
  4. 4. Act on the long-term average
Health Canada recommends taking action if your long-term radon level is at or above 200 Bq/m³.

FAQ

C-NRPP and radon testing, answered

What is C-NRPP?

C-NRPP is the Canadian National Radon Proficiency Program. It publishes a performance-based comparison of consumer-grade electronic radon monitors sold in Canada, based on its own tests.

Which Airthings monitors are recommended by C-NRPP?

Airthings View Plus, Airthings Wave Plus and Airthings Corentium Home are on the C-NRPP list of recommended consumer-grade electronic radon monitors.

How long should I test for radon?

At least 3 months, ideally during the heating season. Short-term readings can be much higher or lower than your real average radon level.

What radon level should I act on?

Health Canada recommends taking action if your long-term radon level is at or above 200 Bq/m³. Base the decision on your long-term average, not a single day's reading.

What do I do if my 3-month radon average is at or above 200 Bq/m³?

Start by increasing natural ventilation, and keep monitoring. If your levels stay at or above 200 Bq/m³, we recommend contacting a radon professional for advice. If you go ahead with mitigation, keep monitoring afterwards to make sure the fix is working.

Can a digital radon monitor replace a professional radon test?

Yes. Digital radon monitors included on the C-NRPP's list of recommended consumer-grade devices are recognized for long-term homeowner testing, provided measurements are taken for at least 3 months.

While these devices cannot be professionally calibrated and are not approved for use by C-NRPP-certified professionals when testing clients' homes, they are recognized for homeowners conducting their own radon testing.

Results collected over less than 3 months should be considered preliminary, and monitoring should continue until the minimum testing period is reached.

Which one should I choose?

Choose View Plus for radon plus particulate matter, COâ‚‚ and more, with a display and plug-in option. Choose Wave Plus for radon and key air quality readings in a battery-powered monitor. Choose Corentium Home if you only want radon, read straight from the screen.
