Airthings for Business Flagship Product Becomes the First-Ever to Earn New Distinction, Validating Airthings’ Alignment with multiple features in the WELL Building Standard

OSLO, NORWAY (April 4, 2023) – Airthings, the leading developer of indoor air quality and energy reduction solutions for commercial buildings and homes, announced today that it became the first company to qualify for the “Works with WELL” recognition for its Space Pro indoor air quality monitor. The International WELL Building Institute’s (IWBI) new trademark demonstrates that Airthings’ Space Pro business product aligns with health strategies around Air and Thermal Comfort within the WELL Building Standard (WELL) and is the first product in the world to receive this specific credential from WELL.

WELL is the world’s leading standard for healthy buildings, organizations and communities. The 100 plus evidence-based health and well-being strategies of the WELL Standard are used in more than 40,000 locations around the world.  Developed over 10 years and backed by the latest scientific research, the WELL Building Standard outlines key building-level interventions and organizational strategies across 10 concept areas. Airthings’ Space Pro product works to support three of these critical WELL concept feature areas, including Air, Thermal Comfort and Materials. These alignments mean the product can contribute to the achievement of the following WELL features:

  • A08.1 Air quality monitoring and awareness - Install Indoor Air Monitors
Monitor indoor air quality issues, as well as inform and educate individuals on the quality of the indoor environment.
  • T06.1 Thermal comfort monitoring - Monitor Thermal Environment
Monitor and effectively address unacceptable thermal comfort conditions and inform building managers and users of the thermal comfort parameters of their indoor environment.
  • X01.3 Material Restrictions - Restrict Lead
To reduce or eliminate human exposure to building materials known to be hazardous.
  • X05.1 Enhanced Material Restrictions - Select Compliant Interior Furnishings
Minimize the exposure to certain chemicals by limiting their presence in products.

“We are thrilled to see our flagship business product, Space Pro, become the first product worldwide to be licensed with the Works with WELL trademark,” said Oyvind Birkenes, CEO of Airthings. “Aligning with WELL has been very important to our company’s growth, and we’ve worked diligently over the years to ensure that Airthings’ products support the WELL Standard. As part of the WELL network, we’re making it easier to create spaces that prioritize human health and well-being, and this alignment further validates the tangible impact of our devices."

Space Pro is part of the Airthings for Business product portfolio, a scalable air quality solution that helps facility managers, building professionals, and decision makers balance their health and energy efficiency in any building. With the Airthings for Business solution, Space Pro can provide users with comprehensive indoor air quality monitoring insights, including PM, CO2, temperature, humidity, VOCs, noise, and more. This data offers a new level of control and insight into any space, enabling anyone to easily create healthier, more productive, and energy-efficient indoor environments for occupants. Landsec, one of the largest commercial property companies in the United Kingdom, already rolled out Airthings monitors to support Portolio applying WELL at scale.

The alignment between Space Pro and WELL features demonstrates Airthings’ continued commitment to advancing products and solutions that support health and well-being. The company has been a member of the UN Global Compact since 2020 and supports its 10 principles. In addition to implementing an extensive life-cycle assessment (LCAs) on all products and integrating new sustainable practices into its R&D and engineering, Airthings is also an IWBI member, joining a network of global brands excited to support the WELL movement by sharing expertise and solutions that advance people’s health and well-being. IWBI granted the license to Airthings to use the Works with WELL trademark after Airthings submitted an application to IWBI and underwent a third-party document review to confirm that its Space Pro air quality monitor and its respective features meet the requirements for the license required by IWBI.
