OSLO, NORWAY - (October 19, 2022) - Airthings, the global leader in air quality monitoring for businesses, schools and homes, has teamed up with the ventilation giant Lindab in Norway to develop a solution that turns outdated and energy-inefficient buildings into environmental winners.

“A great many buildings are still operated without any form of active control of the ventilation system. This means that the air volumes are the same, regardless of the time of day and whether there are people in the premises or not”, says Øyvind Birkenes, CEO of Airthings. “Our new technology now makes it possible to take control, without major interventions or costs. Regulating the ventilation according to when people are actually present has a big energy-savings potential.”

Airthings and Lindab have developed a solution that makes it possible to retrofit smart Variable Air Volume (VAV) dampers that automatically regulate the air in a room or zone in a building. Airthings’ wireless IoT sensors talk directly to Lindab's UltraLink dampers. The sensors measure temperature, humidity and CO2 and send the data directly to the Lindab damper, which then automatically adjusts the air volumes. The Airthings sensors simultaneously send the data directly to Airthings' cloud solution, allowing remote monitoring and analysis to further optimize the building.

Lindab will be targeting the professional market and will be selling the solution through their partner network in 9 stores across Norway, in Oslo, Drammen, Kristiansand, Sandnes, Bergen, Ålesund, Trondheim, Harstad and Tromsø. The initial stock order for Airthings devices: Space Pro, Space CO2 and Space Hub has already been received, and starting Monday the devices will be available to purchase. Together with Lindab, a co-branded solution has been created for both packaging and in-store branding.

“The new technology is tailored for the renovation market. The upgrade provides significant energy-savings overnight and immediately gives you better control over the building. We believe this can help give many existing buildings a new and extended life”, says Eirik Austad, CEO of Lindab Norway.
